Picked up "Full of Grace" for a light summer read. I was delighted to find a a book that deals well with the mysteries of Catholicism. Although your description of Italian/Americans is not entirely accurate, it seems you have taken some time to investigate what it means to be Italian/American. By the way, we NEVER call pasta, noodles, and we always have expresso (not decaffinated coffee) after a holiday meal.

Dottie, Just finished reading "Lowcountry Summer." What a wonderful piece of literary work once again! I have become an avid reader of all the "Frank" books. Did you know that you seem to be just as famous as some movie stars, Dottie? We are all so proud of you and your accomplishments. Our art teacher, Virginia Fouche Bolton, would be so so proud of you, too. You were her favorite little artist! Would love to hear from you. Bless you and your family. Susan

I just finished reading "Lowcountry Summer" and absoultly hated that it came to an end. Living in the lowcountry all of my life and raised with a very large family, I feel as if every time I read one of your books that I am reading about a long lost relative that we all dearly miss. I can not wait for the next book, but until then I will close my eyes and let the Atlantic lull me with its wonderful sounds and sents.

I just finished reading Return to Sullivans Island and loved, loved, loved it! I am so excited that Lowcountry Summer is a sequel to Plantation because I think Plantation may be my favorite. Every time I read or reread one of your books you make me want to move to South Carolina. To tell you the truth, I don't think I can take the heat!! The heat waves here in Jersey must be cake compared to what you grew up in on Sullivans Island. I am honored that you divide your time between SC and NJ. As a full blooded Italian girl, I have to say you nailed the whole Italian family thing in Full of Grace. If you ever need info on being Italian and/or grwoing up in NJ you can email me anytime! I was actually born in Belleville, which I'm sure you heard of. The closest I got to Charleston was a trip to Myrtle Beach back in '06 which was cut short due to a tropical storm but I loved every minute of it. I think the best beach in Jersey is Long Beach Island. Anyway, I love all your books & sometimes think I have been displaced living here in Yankee territory. One day I hope to experience all the places you write about!!

I just finished Low Country Summer. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I cracked up when Trip was talking about his clients. I liked Rusty and hated it when her character died. Even though I thought Caroline was a bit of a hypocrite, I liked her character. Will she and Frances Mae ever really get along? Also, I'm dying to know what happens on the trip to New York before Amelia's debutant party. Can't wait for your next book.

Though born in NC, and lived as a kid in Decatur, GA, I've lived in other states most of my life until moving to Bluffton 5 years ago. My tie to the south was through 2 Boykin Spaniels, 1 as a child, the other from Holly Hill, SC, who moved with us from PA to SC. I just returned to my old home in Mt. Pleasant, SC to pay tribute to my wedding anniversary on July 15, 2010. I arrived on the 14th and left on July 20th. I say pay tribute, because my husband Noah died 2-6-2010 at the age of 43. My therapist thought it would be helpful; I personally have now decided that she is "nuts". All I could do was remember the years we lived in the low country and how wonderful they were; how in love we were. Nothing seemed to go right. My mother-in-law went with me and we had a wonderful time spending time together, but for some reason nothing went right when we tried to spend time on the beach. She has lupus and must be under an umbrella and every one I purchased would break when I tried to put it up after I had pulled a 40 lb cart with our necessities for the day out onto the beach; then I'd pack it all back up and try to get it back to the car. Speaking of the car I gently bumped the manifold on the hotel sidewalk backing up to our room and cracked a hole in the muffler and then it just cut off on me and (thankfully it is a straight drive) so myself and three other people helped push the car while a nice young lady popped the clutch and got it started. The only peaceful, wonderful time I had was my sunrise morning walks along the beach alone with my service dog, Cinnamon. I had a hard enough time just making the decision to go and to have so many things go wrong I felt like I wasn't suppose to be there. But, the low country is the one place in the world that I love more than anything else. My husband felt the same. I know he'd have wanted me to go "home", but I only felt him around me on those early morning walks. I was lucky enough to find the book written about the homes of Sullivan's Island and located the Vagabond Villa. I see that it is under what appears to be major reconstruction/remodeling. It is a beautiful house and I am sure you will enjoy it very much once you are able to move back in. Chris and Joe at Barnes and Noble told me you were home for the summer I was hoping to meet you to get some advice from you about locating a agent that would have my best interest at heart. I started my first book about 2 years ago and I am in the process of finishing the last few chapters and editing. One of my husbands last dreams was for me to finish this book and see it published and to be a successful writer/author. I am a registered nurse, but I have not been able to work since 2002 when I was diagnosed with a rare form of uterine cancer. The treatment caused complications that have made it impossible to ever return to work. Some people wake up from near death experiences and are able to see spirits or are psyhic, I woke up and for the first time in my life I am able to write. I have won 2 editor's choice awards for my poetry from the International Library of poetry and I have made it to the finals in a poetry contest that could win me $2500.00. I should hear within the next few months. I was very disappointed that I was unable to meet you, possibly next trip. I would also like to know what you think of the "Nook" ereader that Barnes and Noble is pushing. How will this effect author's income, esp. r/t hard cover sales? Thank you for sharing your gift of writing with us your fans. Your work is incredible. Thank you for reminding me of my old home, & for taking me there through your books.

I have read all your books and have loved every one of them. Your humor is refreshing and your characters are so fleshed out I feel I know them. I live near Charlotte, NC but have always felt more like I have come home when I am in the lowcountry. I did live in Florence, SC for 2 years and spent all days off on the beach with my husband and a cooler of summer sausage, drinks, and cheese. I have spent some of every summer in the lowcountry for over 30 years! It's history, architecture, manners, and traditions are enchanting. I have explored the Charleston area a lot over the years since my husband has had business there often and we enjoy walking all over the city. How do you stand being away from the lowcountry while you are in NJ? It is so totally different from the South and seems so hurried and lacking in the beauty of your home state and town!

What an AMAZING authoress you are! I enjoy your books so much! I'm wondering if there is a chance you will one day offer all of them in AUDIO form? I only "read" (listen) to audio books now because they simply come to life so much more vividly. Also because at 50 I'm spending all my actual reading time with college courses. So the more of your books on audio the better for me. Also, is the list that's on your web site a chronilogical list in order of when they were written? I'm sure I've already listened to a few out of order but would love to read the rest in order. Thank you again for the world you take me to when you write. I have a dear friend who lives in S.C. near Charleston and she also knows of your works. I've always wanted to go to S.C. and Gullah Island and meet the people you so wonderfully describe. All of your books are thoroughly enjoyable. I'm catching up on the older ones I have not read. Just finished re-reading Plantation and then read Lowcountry Summer. Whatever happened to the doctor Caroline was so in love with at the end of Plantation? You skipped to the Pork King and I missed having some closure on the first relationship. You mention Jack Taylor at Caroline's wedding to Matthew in Lowcountry. Still you left me wondering why you skipped over him at the beginning. Loved all the characters.

Hi, Dottie, I just finished Lowcountry Summer last night. I loved it and can't believe you FINALLY wrote the very long-awaited sequel to Plantation. You can't stop now! I had just about given up since we had to wait ten years to get this sequel...don't make us wait again...tell us about Amelia's party and how is poor ugly little Chloe going to turn out and is Trip REALLY going to stay with FM (even though you did accomplish a considerable feat in making me come to have maybe the teeniest ounce of something like respect for FM)...or maybe that's called "maturity" on Caroline's part, Trip's part and FM's part. Is Linnie ever going to come around, ie, is there hope for her with the strawberry business? She certainly is the worst of the lot. I LOVE Millie and her special gifts but you made me worry about her getting old, hopefully she has MANY years left, esp. with Mr. Jenkins. I was sad about Rusty. I love Matthew. I'm curious about Eric and Amelia and wondered if anything is going to go on with them. I love that you keep Lavinia in there still...that's a real truth. There is SO MUCH MORE to tell. I hope you keep your "mojo" and this story going. I do NOT want it to end. You have a real gift with this story and this family. I talked to you on the phone about ten years ago because I was leading the discussion for my book club about Plantation. In my humble opinion, this family and this place that you have created is the most special of all your books and characters. We are all dying to know what happens next. Miss Lavinia would surely want her family's story to continue. Whether you do or not, a million THANKS for the stories that made me laugh out loud, cry, smile, read parts aloud, lend or buy the book for all my friends, underline truths, show us wisdom, give us a picture of the Lowcountry, the Gullah culture and made me feel like this family was my family, although thankfully, NOT, but it surely is interesting, entertaining and fun to read. Thanks again, Susan

I discovered your books after my brother suddenly passed away in 2000. He lived along the Battery in Charleston and we were all invited to meet at Shem Creek Grill to visit with his girlfriend and figure out what to do (he has seven siblings). I adored Shem Creek and was actually readin it during a trip to Ireland with my sisters and cousins. After a week of meeting long lost relatives and hearing the phrase "Jesus, Mary and Joseph many many times, it was so endearing to read it in your novel on the trip home from Ireland - I had to show it to all! I have since read all of your books. I wonder if you knew my brother - his name was Gregory Edward Flynn, Jr.. He was always interested in the "literati". Thank you for your great books. Unfortunately, I just finished reading Lowcountry Summer and I am so sad that is over and done with. The only complaint that I have is it is just too dang short! The characters are simply part of my family, even though mine are from Texas. Crazy families run in my DNA and all the people in this book fit like a white glove. Thank you so much for giving us another wonderful book and please don't ever stop. Ya'll come back, y'hea.

I didn't realize when I bought Lowcountry Summer that it was a sequel. I just bought it because I have read all your books and have a special place in my heart for South Carolina! since it has been awhile I reread Plantation and moved right into Lowcountry Simmer. Loved reading it at the beach yesterday! I had the impression that Caroline and Dr. Jack would continue their relationship and was confused as to what happened when I began the sequel. It wasn't until the end of the book that he and his friends were even mentioned. Wondered why you decided to do that? Loved the ending anyway! Thanks and have a great summer!

I am such a huge fan - the only complaint about your books is they dont come out monthly!! Just picked up Lowcountry Summer and can't wait to dive in. Actually saving it for my trip to Isle of Palms/Charleston in just a few weeks. I love the area - took my mom a couple years ago. This year returning with two friends in tow also!! Please tell me the things, places and restaurants not to miss. I dont want to be caught up in the tourist traps only but want to really explore the local hangouts and the great fresh seafood that hopefully will be there. ANy input would be awesome. Im so excited about reading Lowcountry Summer while actually being there in the summer!!! Keep writing ! Lisa

I read "Lowcountry Summer" - for the 2nd time since it came in the mail - and as all your works, enjoyed it down to my soul. Thank you! Now, I'd so love to read "Blue Roots" by Roger Pinckney that you referenced in your Acknowledgments, but can't find it in any bookstore nor at any of our libraries. Can you please let me know where to get it? I will be eternally grateful. Warmest regards and happy 4th!

I just wanted you to know, that you gave me back my love for reading. I have not been able to read, for over 10 years. I have had some health problems. Now with new medication, and your books, I am on the road to recovery. The first book I read was Plantation. I loved it. I have read all of your books, except for Lowcountry Summer. I just got it today. I can't wait to get started. I am looking foward to your next book. Keep them coming. I can't physically get to the Lowcountry, but in your books anything is possible. Best wishes.

I just finished "Return to Sullivans Island". It's so fun to meet you characters. I live far away from the lowcountry. My son, was stationed in Beaufort, SC, when he was in the Marine Corps and stayed there for 10 years after his discharge. Before we visited him there he would tell me how it smelled like home, which was so hard for me to fathom since he was born & raised in Iowa. Once we visited there, I could understand his draw to the area. He now lives in Shreveport, because it is "home" to his wife, but he will always consider the Beaufort area his home. Your books give me the chance to "visit" there once again. Another warmth from this book was that Susan called her daughter Beth, Woodles...and that is nickname my son and daughter in law call my 3 year old granddaughter, Ava. Thank you for a great read.

Just finished "Return to Sullivan's Island." Wonderful read with colorful characters. As someone who worked at WCIV when it was across from Simmons Seafood, just down the road from the Pig, and a mile from Bert's Bar, the book was so evocative of my time in Charleston. On vacation a few months ago I was introducted to your book Pawleys Island. We golf at Litchfield every year in the spring- a group of 8 wonderful women. This year we went to Wild Dunes and spent the week golfing on Isle of Palms and visiting Charleston. I came home in late April and have been engulfed in your books ever since. Pawleys Island, Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island (loved all three) so far but now underway with The land of mango sunset. I have Lowcountry Summer on order. I just wanted to thank you for so many hours of enjoyable reading. I am sharing your books with all my friends and will continue to read my way through all your wonderful works and look forward to the next new publication. You and Anne River Siddons make me want to pack up my belongings (or maybe even leave them behind) and move to low country South Carolina. And maybe someday I will. I have enjoyed reading all of your books so much and have enjoyed even more talking with you at three of your book signings. I keep hoping you will take me up on my invitation to join my friends and me on Dewees for a girls weekend. I have just finished Lowcountry Summer and can't wait for the sequel to find out how the shopping trip to New York turns out. Don't keep your readers waiting too long. The suspense might kill us. After reading Lowcountry Summer I realized something was missing. I don't know if this was a test for your readers or not but I noticed that a poem by Marjory Wentworth was missing. All of your other books except The Christmas Pearl have one included. Did I miss something? Thank you for your books. They give me a way to be in the Lowcountry without having to leave Columbia. They also make me laugh out loud. I can't wait to read the next one. Barbara

Dear Dot ~ is it OK to call you that?? ~ I just finished Return to Sullivan's Island for the 2nd time and feel/felt like I'm one of their family members there at Island Gamble. I have read ALL your books, w/the exception of The Christmas Pearl, to date. I'll head for the library to borrow it and Lowcountry Summer, and then will buy them when they comes out in paperback. (I have lots of arthritis in my hands and a hardback is just to difficult to hold most times, plus the cost). According to all the calenders, I'm nearly 76 yrs old, but on "the inside", I still think, feel, and am ~ about 45 yrs old. I adore your books, and have read them each 2 and 3 times. My dad was raised by an aunt and uncle in Camden, SC and I was there once when I was 4 yrs old. In reading lots of books, esp those set in SC, I know now why my Dad's name for me was always, "Sugar", and why/how he and mom raised Boykin and Cocker Spaniels for years. My generation wasn't really allowed to ask many questions ~ about family or events or what have you, so these 'nuggets' of Carolina life that I've found in your books and others, have given me many "aha" moments. My dad was a "Southern Gentleman". I have always seen him as such, even when I was 6 or 7, and he was close to 30 yrs of age, and I still refer to him as such. We lived in Southern Calif my whole life, at the beach, and from 2002 thru 2007, I lived on the Big Island of HI, in Kona. I so love it, but even more, I WANT TO GET TO S. CAROLINA, to the Lowcountry, and just soak it all up. I definitely want to go to Sullivan's Island and the Isle of Palms too. I will get there, and plan to check All the islands, everything you've shared with us in your books, in real time. I now live with my oldest son and his wife in CO, with a portion of their home to call my own. I found a wallpaper border of A Carolina Coast scene, and changed the decor in my bathroom around it. On one of the pages in Return to Sullivan's Island, you describe a scene that IS my wallpaper, to a "T". I LOVE IT. So, my favorite author (you've even passed Nicholas Sparks on my list) ~ THANK YOU SO MUCH TO GIVING ME A GLIMPSE OF LIFE WHERE i'D LIKE TO BE MORE THAN ANYTHING!!! Sincerely, Cindy W.

Dear Mrs. Frank, I just finished Lowcountry Summer and it is absolutely wonderful! I imagine you're exhausted from writing; however, I certainly hope you are considering another book soon! I have all of your books and thoroughly enjoy reading them over and over - just like visiting with friends. She had not read any of your books yet so I explained how your characters are so strong and how they make you laugh and/or cry and how they become friends. I told her how characters from each book appear in the next book and she said she loved it when an author brought their best friends forward. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I couldn't wait to get your latest and I couldn't slow down my reading to make it last longer. That's what always happens with your books! Thank you for giving me such great escapes to your world. My goal is to get my special group of six friends together for a road trip to the beaches of South Carolina and a tour of Charleston. Sincerely,

Thank you very much for being able to send a autographed copy of "Lowcountry Summer". It arrived safely today. I missed your visit at Litchfield Books by two days! I was on vacation. Hope that you will come for another book signing at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters. I have been trying to start a collection or library of all your books. The one that I am missing is "The Christmas Pearl".

I just finished Low Country Summer and absolutely loved it. It was released in time for our vacation so in between visiting with family and friends I have finally finished it! I did not want it to end but then did not want to put it down either, ya know? I had the pleasure of meeting you and having my picture with you and several of my friends and co-workers at Reader's Corner in Raleigh several years ago. We had just learned that my father had stage 4 colon cancer...He is still doing well. More good days than bad. You had just released your book - The Land of Mango Sunsets, so that seemed to fit right into my life at that time too. Thank you for continuing to write the stories that so many of us adore! Your books are "keeper" books for me. The ones that I buy as soon as they are released, can't have them mailed because what it they got there too late in the day?!? With admiration, Amy Yates Bryan

Missed you by that much! Just got back today from my favorite place. Stayed as usual in Mt. Pleasant around the corner from Town Center and saw that you will be at B&;N Saturday, signing your latest. The good news is your latest tome was waiting for me in the mail box. Spent yesterday on the beach at Sullivan's Island, the weather was great and no wind, I am happy to say. So I will start the laundry, unpack the suitcase and my reward will be to settle back and start reading. I will force myself to read slowly to savour (like a good meal) every page. By the way, do you have a good receipt for pickled shrimp? Had some Tuesday night at Off the Hook and it was terrific! Thanks for your latest effort, I am sure it will surpass the original. I am currently re-reading Shem Creek, I just read the preview of Lowcountry Summer. I will be in a rush to get to the library after school to see if they have it ordered yet, and hopefully, be the first on the hold list. The preview was great, I can't wait to read it. Hi Dorothea! I just want to say I absolutely love to read your books. You can really tell a story! I have always done a little writing, lately children's stories, hope to publish someday. My kids will ask me if Im always going to write about little animals I say, "I dont know, would I love to be a Dorothea Benton Frank? Heck yeah!" So maybe one day, I'll have your talent. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed "Full of Grace". I am a first generation American of Italian decent and could relate to the "family" scenes. You might not remember but in one on his interviews with you, Walter Edgar referred to his Italian friend from Massachusetts. That was me. Yippie! You're coming to So Cal!! My reading group will be at Border's in Canoga Park to meet you. To date, we have read SIX of your books as our reading group selections. Of course you know, we will be buying Lowcountry Summer for our July selection. We have talked about making a journey to Sullivan's Island as a group but haven't been able to get it together as yet. I wish The Christmas Pearl had been around when my girls were younger. I would make reading it to them an annual tradition. Maybe it's not too late, although they are in their twenties! Even though it's June, I am going to read it again this evening! Can hardly wait to meet you and get lots of photos! We last met Lisa Scottoline and enjoyed our visit with her. Have also met Kate Jacobs and Charles Martin, as well as a couple of others via phone calls won on Reading Group Guides.com. However, you and Fern Michaels have always been at the top of my list! One time in my "writer's group" there was a question..."what would make you feel like a successful writer"...and I said, "Sitting on the outer banks, with my toes in the water having beers with Dot, Anne, and Pat"...that would be IT! I was in Mt. Pleasant for two months and made the Isle of Palms and Sully's my nirvana....and the fertile soil of my future. I was the whitest face in the bar on the Isle of Palms...and people surfing during the "hurricane" filled me a sense of wonder...I'm from Texas so I was "accepted" as a southerner...But there ain't no south like the low country. I fell in love with Pat Conroy (is he not amazing?!) then you, then Ann Rivers Siddon's...and I don't know why the hell I'm still sitting in t Panhandle of Texas when the roar of a bull gator should be my swan song to sleep...and I'd rather wait for a rich bithes' sailboat to cross under the drawbridge than sit on my dusty road waiting for a train. I know we always want what we can't have...but I had a Gullah man take me in, on his tidal creek...he taught me how to cast my net....and to cook it up and breathe it all in. I don't think he said more than 30 words...and I don't think I've ever learned more about life from that experience! And I love your novels but you're going to have to go a LONG way to make Francis Mae a character I can get behind! (maybe not though...did a pretty good job of painting her...I guess she IS redeemable?) So excited...I love your characters and I hope Caro and the tackies are good...in my mind they are great! Thanks for the worlds you give us.

Dear Dot I just got through reading "Return to Sullivans Island". Two phrases in your book rang home with me since they are phrases that we use here in Barbados and the Caribbean. One was "suck your teeth" an expression which we use here and call it "Chupse" or "choops", also "cut eye". I don't know if you know that Barbados and the Carolinas have a shared history as a result of slavery. Slaves from Barbados were sent to the Carolinas to work in the fields. (I learnt that on PBS). Here at home too, I learnt here at home that the plantaion houses there are similar to those here and that some of the surnames of the people of the Carolinas are spelt like ours and that the speech is very similar to ours. I noticed that Cicely in the novel ended her sentences with "'eah". We say "nuh" (no) or yuh hear?(did you hear". We also say "y'all". It was like home. We don't speak of "haints" here. We talk about hags or balls of fire, spirits and other legendary creatures. All said, I enjoyed the nove. I got hooked on your writing after reading "Land of Mango Sunsets". The title intrigued me and then I followed up with "Full of Grace" and now "Return to Sullivan's Island. Being a native of an island, I am enjoying your description of the scenery and your characters. Keep it up. Margaret

Dorothea... You draw me into your books so much that I am once again in Pawley's or Georgetown or Sullivan's Island... etc. I can't put your books down, I want to be there. I am waiting to read your new release. Cathy Kelly, whom I belive you know, gave me some of your books which I had not read, and I just finished Sheem Creek. Your description of Montclair, Brad Jackson, the Lowells property and so on, allows your readers to have a vision in their own minds, just what this person or place looks like, if they are not fortunate enough to know the area, they can through your eyes. I am from the New Jersey area as well, and have a summer home in Pawley's Island, and I now live in Florida. I love Pawley's Island, and when I have a need to be there and can't, I read your wonderful books. Sheem Creek, hit me very hard. I was able to relate with Linda, when Gracie, her teenage daughter, was in a coma. And the ordeal Linda went through, first to get back home to her, and then wait those endless moments for her to awaken. It took me back in time, and I could feel her pain and knew exactly how she felt, every single moment of her angush until Gracie woke up. My own teenage daughter, at the age of 16, suffered a Trumatic Brain Injury, and was in a coma for 3 1/2 months... so I had a hard time with that part of the book.. but it had a happy ending.. loved it. Keep writing about the Lowcountry, and maybe enough people will become curious, they to will come to appreciate its beauty and culture. I can't wait to try some of the Mimi's recipes...Keep your pen in hand, and don't stop writing, you make our world a better place with your novels. Fondly, Brenda Galate

Thank you for bringing the south back to me. I am from Savannah but have lived in Ohio for far too long. I want to move south in 2 years and your books bring up so many memories. My southern family is a unique set of characters that only a southerner could appreciate. They are so entertaining. I have read all of your books and look forward to Lowcountry Summer. What a gift you have. Joan chapman

Love your books. I love Myrtle Beach and the surronding areas. This year I want to go back to Pawley's Island and do some exploring. It's been many years since I was there and I am now reading the book, Pawley Island. Wish I would go to all the places mentioned in your books. Keep up the good work.

How did we live without you Dot? Each book you write is better than the last one. Every time I think I've died and gone to heaven, as in Sullivan's Island, Full of grace, and all the rest of your gems, you comes up with a new, another set of lovely characters that win my heart forever.

I just finished reading Return to Sullivans Island. I never want to come to the end of your books, I've read every one with great pleasure. I laughed at the comment of loving reading "even cereal boxes".. I've said the same many times. We visited Sullivan's Island a couple of times and I will never forget the joy of walking that incredible beach. I grew up on Long Island in New York and have walked many beaches in my life there, but you are right..once you have the sand of Sullivan's Island in your shoes you want to return. Thank you so much for a joyous, intriguing , exciting read as always. I remain you faithful fan. Carol

Dear Ms. Frank, I just recieved a pile of Coastal Living magazines that a friend didn't want(?) Among them was the JUly/August '09 issue with your wonderful article. You mirrored my hearts desire and ache for the smell of the ocean. I admitt I've not read your books but that will change today literally. All of what you have said is so true for those of us who can't physically, emotionally, or mentally be 5+hrs. from our heaven on earth. My husband and I are from New England and have a beach house but because of his career we are here in Georgia. When I go home I experience the exact same events...I have a lighter spirit as soon as I cross the bridge and can smell the sea. Am younger...sleep better...more creative...more peaceful.....and yes, chemically need the negative ions from the ocean waves. When I am not in that magical place and have trouble sleeping, I too walk the beach in my visual eye and try to hear the gulls, waves and the sound of the sand with each step. This is God's masterpiece...He leads me besides the still waters and it does restore my soul. Now to add to our endless worries of the state of the world is the most threatening situation in the precious waters of the Gulf of Mexico. I have been to Destin FLA. once and the sand was like no other I've experienced that I had to literally lay in it's silkey bed and fell asleep. Your books will be adorning our summer shelf for our guests and myself to enjoy on the beach this summer. Sister's of the Sea, Darlene Moore

Dear Ms. Frank: Do you really get to read all these comments or do you have someone who reads them for you and lets you know about them? I ask because I have a personal question for you. I respect your talent and have read all of your books and inpatiently wait for each new one. My question is this: I am trying to write a personal story...but would like to put it into a fictional state. I know you have had millions or possibly kazillions of people talk to you about books. My whole family has fought cancer and all but one other than myself is left and she is now fighting colon cancer for the second time. If I lose her I will be the only one left and I am 61 years old and lucky enough to not have had cancer yet. We just lost our oldest sister two years ago to brain cancer. When it was just the three of us sisters left we used to travel with each other, have sister weekends and eat comfort food and laugh and giggle about every topic in the world. Now it is just the two of us sisters left and one is fighting for her life. And selfishly I am so afraid of being left alone. I have a husband and two sons and one grandchild, but amazingly there is still that feeling of being left alone when your sisters. I don't know how to begin putting all this into words and how to use a ficticious name as my sister does not want me to put all this in our real names. I know I most likely will not hear from you, but if you read this and feel like giving me some ideas, I would love to hear from you. I am so looking forward to your June book....I love the "lowcountry" stories and cannot wait. Take care and keep writing....as you are immensely loved in this reading world. I am a new fan and was wondering if any of the stories are trilogies as I do love them. I'd love to see Return to Sullivans Island continue with Beth and Woody, Cecily and Niles and of course the ghosts in the mirror - especially love that touch. Anyway, thanks for a wonderful read. I love the Charleston area & Lowcountry. I'm enjoying recognizing names of places we've visited. I'm especially enjoying Lola in the book! You must have a Yorkie to describe her actions so well! Your books touch my very soul! I was born in Charleston and raised in Columbia. My summers and holidays were spent on Mt Pleasant or James Island, with my cousins. It's a childhood every child should experience! When I'm driving into Charleston and smell the marshes and plough mud, I know I'm home. "Plantation" could have been written about my mother and my Aunt Clara. Those two were a hoot, just like Miss Livinia! When I start missing Mamma,I read Plantation. If you decide to write about James Island, you MUST meet my cousin, Tim Saye. He wons a small barber ship on hwy 17 called the Bushwacker. He is a character like you rarely meet. All Island boy and the most hilarious person I have ever known. He's also one of the loves of my life. You would want to write the whole book on Tim, our zany family, and his incredible exploits as a very daring child!I adore all of your books. I am taking chemo and never go without one of my Dorothrea books to read.

I just got through reading Plantation. I could hardly put it down. My mother was born in South Carolina and raised on a plantation called Mulberry.I always called her, my Scarlet O'hara mom. She also had some tales to tell. Reading this book and thinking about Miss Lavinia reminded me alot of my mom. I remember her talking about a Judge with the last name of Bootle and seems like I remember a Dr. Bootle also. When i got to the part about a person named Petesy i just laughed, i have a cousin named Petesy. I had relatives in Walterboro, in fact my aunt used to own the motel in Walterboro. You make it seem like you're right there with them and since I am from Savannah and also had relatives in Charleston I know these places you are talking about and it makes it seem more real. I can hardly wait to go get more of your books.

Dear Ms. Frank: I Love Your Books! They are wonderful stories and your characters are so real. I just returned home from visiting my 89 year old father in Florida. He is in end-stage cancer and it was a sad visit. But while there I was reading "The Land of Mango Sunsets" and it brought me many laughs and smiles! I loved "Petal Puss/Miriam/Mellie" and Kevin and some of the words and phrases your characters used such as "gadzooks" "geewillikers" and "pokey" really hit home as I can remember some of my family members using those terms years ago!! I grew up in Charleston and have since moved away, but your books always bring me a little piece of home when I need it. The first book I ever read of yours was Shem Creek, which really hit home because my family lives in the Old Village of Mt. Pleasant. I absolutely love how you capture the true spirit of the lowcountry and share it with the rest of the world. There truly is no place like Charleston. "I'd also love to hear what you're thinking about ebooks!" Ms. Frank - I think ebooks are great! I'm a new convert to my Sony Reader, a gift from my husband for Christmas 2009. I didn't think I'd like it at first, but I travel for business and find that I'm never without a good book to read, and it's compact and lightweight in the briefcase! Still, with your books, I'll always buy the hardbound for my library. I'm trying to rebuild my library after losing everything to Hurricane Ivan in 2004. In addition, I buy your paperbacks for my guestroom. I just gave away two of your paperbacks to a guest last week - she grew up on Sullivan's Island and didn't know about you! (She's been gone a long time.) What would make this ebook/hardbound bookaholic happy is a combo deal! Can't we buy the hardbound and get a discounted ebook version? THAT would ROCK! I can't wait for your new release in June. I'm desperate for a signed copy, but I don't see a tour event anywhere near my hometown. How about considering a signed copy deal for early orders of your book? Maybe a local indie bookstore will do it for those of us so far away from the low country or your east coast home? Love your books, Ms. Dot! Thank you for sharing your imagination, talent, and time invested in the often painful process of writing!

I've also tried a lovely new bourbon, Buffalo Trace, which is nicely dry, with delightful herbaceous notes--I can wholeheartedly recommend it. Once again, it was marvelous to meet you. Dear Dottie, We met at a book signing on James Island. I have bought and read every book you have written with exception of Bulls Island. That is next!! I just finished Pawleys Island, I laughed, got mad at Nat, Cheered when Rebecca won the house and the kids and cried when miss Olivia died. Your writing is awesome. I am one of your biggest fans. You wrote in my Isle of Palm book,"That you had found another cousin". Well I feel like we are kindred spirits. We grew up in the same time period,me on James Island and you on Sullivan's Island and we also knew a few of the same people on Coker Ave. Just wanted to say Hi, and let you know, if you'll keep writing, I'll keep reading!!! Much Love your cousin in Charleston,S.C.

I can't seem to keep myself from recommending your books to all of my friends. They all agree that they love them as much as I. I would love to see your books available in e-book format, as well as audiobooks (a commuter's dream come true). Everyone loved the Wedding Cake recipe with the Lemon Glaze, that I made for my daughter's wedding shower. Thank you for sharing that with everyone, but now I want to try the chocolate version that you mentioned in "Return to Sullivan's Island". Any chance of seeing that on your website? I just finished reading "Full of Grace" and was really intrigued by it -- it went into areas I wasn't expecting -- and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am wondering, though, why there was no follow-up to Marianne's breaking off her teeth, no witty comment from Grace who "couldn't wait to see her," and 4 months before her wedding? I went through that with 2 of my children, and it's not a quick-fix. I was also curious as to why Michael was promoted to Frank's room on his second visit, and where did Frank/family sleep?? I'm looking forward to reading more of your wonderful books!!

I had never heard of you and do not usually read this type of fiction. I am more into history, particularly world history at the time of the second world war. Imagine my absolute delight in reading "Plantation". It was wonderful from start to finish. Even as Caroline finds God (and I don't believe she had really lost him), she continues to be human (the way she refers to her sister-in-law and her brother's children). I am now going to have to make my new project reading all of your books. In addition, I have a friend who says she can never finish a book. I believe she will finish this one. Keep writing and we will keep reading and bringing new people into your circle!

I love your books! I have read everything that is available through the National Library for the Blind and, probably, through audible.com, as well. My mom died of cancer three years ago and, this weekend, as I was reading "Plantation" I truly felt that you have some real understanding about how a daughter feels when her mother is dying. My favorite Low country Tale is whatever one I am reading at the time, so, right now, since I just finished it, it is "Plantation." I am looking forward to more books being available to me in an audio format.

Thank you Ms. Frank for your great books. I haven't read a book in years. We spend January and February each year in Myrtle Beach. This year the condo had a book of yours called "Pawleys Island". I didn't feel like doing anything one evening so I picked up the book. I was so mesmerized with the book I couldn't put it down. Having drove around the island, each year, I felt like I was living the book. I bought the book "Bulls Island" and the same thing happened. We are home now and I have a card from our local library. I picked up my second book today but now I need to work around the house. The book will have to wait until dark. Thank you for your inspiring books. I have a new passion.

Whenever I need my soul restored, I go to our local library and bring all your books home and reread them. They never fail to pick me up and shake me back to a feeling of comfort and joy. Many times I laugh out loud and then just have to read the passage to my husband and then we laugh together. You have brought joy to us both. Please keep writing...I especially love the sequels, and look forward to more. God Bless you and thanks for all the enjoyment. Jane

I love your books. I have read them all & keep all my copies. I am looking forward to the new book in June. I am trying to find hard copies for The Christmas Pearl, Pawleys Island & Plantation. I have all hard copies of the other books. I had hard copies of the ,above mentioned three, but some how-they came up missing. All I found was paperback. You are the best! Thanks for a good read! Bev.

I hope we see more of Woody and Beth in an upcoming book. Their love can serve as a model for so many young couples looking for the " right kind of partnership and romance." Please do a sequel to Return to....

I just discovered you and your wonderful books and what a sheer delight it is to spend my evenings wrapped up in your tales of the magnificent South. Reminds me so much of my own childhood in Ol Dixie. Thank you for the pleasures you bring to all of us, your readers. Respectfully, Mr. William Thomas

I recently read The Land of Mango Sunsets & LOVED it! This was the first book of yours that I had read & now I can't quit until I have read them all. I am a devoted reader, (I go no where without a book with me) & can't seem to get enough of your writing. Pawley's Island is definitely a place that I would like to visit some day. Thank you for giving me a place to escape to & dream about! I can't wait for more!

I just finished "Sullivan's Island" yesterday. I usually read when I eat a meal. But I was so into the saga of Susan, Maggie and Beth that I took the entire afternoon to finish the book. I was transported there, surrounded by the love that Livvie exuded, laughed and cried, too. This is only the second "fan" letter that I have ever writen. I now look forward to finding all the other books you have written--the first one will be "Return to Sullivan's Island". Thank You, thank you, thank you!

Thank you for all the stories and laughs at the SC book festival. I especially enjoyed the "in law" stories, as my husband endured my parents into their 90's. They were part of the "sometimes right but never in doubt" generation. My husband graciously, most times, hauled them on Our vacations so they too could have a change of scenery. We would try to slip away for a moment by our selves, my dad would ask where we were going, "out to" we would reply. His answer, "let me get my shoes, I'll go too". I miss those vacations now. Keep us laughing, life's a great journey especially when shared with others.

I love your books and have only 3 more to go!! They take my mind to a place away from everyday stress and worries. Then again, I can't seem to get a thing done after I open one ;) I couldn't thank you enough for those rare minutes of peace of mind. THANK YOU! Please keep writing!

I am the wannabe "geechee" gal who wrote to you a few years ago after reading your first 2 books. Well, this wannabe just wants to be even more now that I have read all the rest of your books! I don't know what it is or what happens when I open the pages, but its magical, mystical and thrilling all at the same time! You make me want to be down there in the lowcountry so badly! I visit there every 2 years or so for vacay, and the desire to live out whatever years I have left down there is so strong and the pull to be there is so great, that I sometimes just know its part of the magical charm and the aura. I had been there twice before I discovered your books and the magic is as strong as the very first day I set my barefeet on that hallowed ground. Reading your books just pulls on my heartstrings even more! I anticipate moving there for good by the end of 2011. So until then, I just read and re-read your books to keep that sense of magic alive for me. Thank you for writing such amazing, funny, tuggin at the heartstrings books. You are one hell of an awesome storyteller, and I anxiously wait for more! A BIG fan........Joanie

I attended a book signing a couple of years ago in Columbia. When will you be coming back to SC? Thanks! Oh by the way your books are incredibly entertaining. Kudos!

Saw and heard you at SC Book Festival-bought Sullivan Island as I never read you before. I was entertained by your talk and as I was sitting in the back could not catch up with you. Good Luck selling you home in New Jersey as I was Lucky to sell my Massachusetts home in August 2008. NOW RESIDE WEST of Columbia on Lake Murray. LOVE CHARLESTON.

I met you yesterday at the SC Book Festival in Columbia, South Carolina. I enjoyed your presentation so much. I haven't laughed that hard in a very long time! I love all your books and cannot wait for the sequel to Plantation to come out this summer. Thank you so much for your humor and being the humble person you are.
